Two Steps Forward and One Step Back

We left Honolulu on Sunday, July 16th and proceeded westerly around the south side of Oahu and then turned north along the west side of Oahu. At 3 hours into our trip everything was good, that was until Sara asked Wade where he put the spear guns, boat hooks, gaffs and such, things that we had temporarily stored on the back of Gary and Genora’s boat in the Ala Wai Marina. Of course, they were still on the back of our neighbor’s boat; not good, not a good start to this long sail, and it would take at least 4 hours to get back to the Marina. But to our rescue came Sara’s Mom and Del by driving to Honolulu, picking up the forgotten items and then meeting us in Po Kai Bay. A very big and heartfelt thank you to both of them. We really, really appreciated this.

At noon the following day we can report that Sara, although not feeling well, has not as of yet thrown-up, yet. So that is a positive turn of events all in itself. The seas are a bit rough, as we expected for the first few days, and the waves average about 6 to 8 feet, many bigger. We are only 128 miles closer to Dutch Harbor, Alaska over the last day, but that is alright considering the time lost sailing the south coast of Oahu and also the dilemma of the rescue of things left behind. Today, our noon position was 23 degrees 18.485 minutes North and 159 degrees 03.494 minutes West, at a speed of 8.2 knots, average wind speed of 21 knots out of about 65 degrees. In addition, we have 1868 more miles to go to Dutch Harbor. No fish were caught and it seems a bit rough to fish today so we are no longer trying. Mac and cheese for a meal today sounds better than cleaning and cooking a fish, that is if we even caught one. The weather looks to show a low developing in our path about 5 days from now, which is a long enough time for things to change. Yet even a gale with winds from behind would be nice to avoid if possible. Rick, The Weather Guy, do you have any thoughts about this possible low and if our planned course should be altered?

Commencement by Sara of a new Math Be Hard For Sailors game, is delayed a day for Sara to hopefully start feeling better.

Cheers to All,

Wade and Sara
